IN BRIEF
The Jazzchor is a basically a Vocal Big Band
Founded in 1990 by director Bertrand Gröger, the choir has been giving
concerts as a Vocal Big Band to the acclaim of audiences and the press all
over the world ("A firework of rhythm", "the most progressive voice in German
choirs").
In addition to winning first prize at every competition it has taken part in
(including first prize at the German Choir Competition in 1998 and first prize
at the Choir Olympics in Korea 2002), the Jazzchor's national and international
fame is the result of tours through Germany, Japan, Russia and Korea, concerts
in France, the Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Denmark,
collaboration with Bobby McFerrin, the Swingle Singers or the Bamberg Symphonic
Orchestra, CDs as well as radio and TV appearances.
The concept of the Jazzchor has born fruit: from the very outset, Bertrand
Gröger and the choir have taken it upon themselves to enter into new musical
territory. Jazz standards and classics are presented in completely new versions;
in addition, original compositions and constant research to find new choir
arrangements from other cultures also play a large role. The choir thus attempts
to go down the road that is always the buzzword in discussions about music, but
is rarely put into practice: bridging culture with a capital and lower-case "c". |
